While driving to work this week I was stopped in traffic behind a vehicle with a bumper sticker with the words “Darwin Loves You”. I stared in contemplation for a few seconds and thought Ah, poking some fun at us Christians. Then as I sometimes do I pondered the issue further. What might the benefits and ramifications of Darwin loving me be? Might there be something I haven’t up to this point considered? Is he alive that he might bestow friendship? Could we carry on a conversation as friends often do? Does the love that Darwin has for me carry any staying power and will he be there for me in my darkest hour? Could Darwin’s love satisfy the righteous requirement of God’s law and bring me to everlasting enjoyment of God? Can this long dead scientist do anything for me other than tell me his theory on how the world was formed? The love of Darwin is a powerless love; it leaves me as it finds me, and that love compared to the love of Jesus, is less than nothing.
1 Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
2 Cor 5:21
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
